New Mexico House of Representatives Pass the Counseling and Psychology Compact Bills Before End of 60 Day Session

03.18.2025

New Mexico’s Senate Judiciary Committee Must Pass Popular Health Care Licensure Compacts Without Delay Pending a Special Session Threat from Governor Grisham.

SANTA FE, NM. – The New Mexico House of Representatives is ending a 60-day session on March 22, 2025, with the popular Counseling and Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact bills passed in overwhelming, bi-partisan fashion.  The state’s house of Representatives approved the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact on March 14, 2025 on a 63-0 vote. The Counseling Compact was also approved on March 5, 2025 on a 62-0 vote.  Americans for Autism Advocacy issues the following comment:

“New Mexico’s House of Representatives put partisanship aside to send a message that the Land of Enchantment is open to aspiring health care providers. The swift passage of the Counseling and Psychology Interjurisdictional Compacts put New Mexico one step closer improving mental health care access for neurodivergent New Mexicans. The ball is now in the court of the Senate’s Judiciary Committee.  Committee Chairman Joseph Cervantes must move to advance the bill out of committee without delay and ensure the Senate can pass the bill swiftly in either a special or 30-day session. Governor Grisham’s threat of a special session this Summer on health care should send a message to the Legislature that not passing these popular compacts hurts every New Mexican who needs care.”
