Ethics

As the Autism and neurodivergent movement grows, unfortunately there are individuals and organizations that profit off the cause for their own game.  Meaningful ethics reform on how tax exempt organizations are governed will ensure a better movement led by better organizations and individuals.

• • Support any legislation in Congress that bans foreign contributions to tax-exempt organizations including 501(c)3 and 501(c)4’s. 
  • • Tax exempt organizations should never be a smokescreen for foreign contributions and or suspect political activity. 
    • This is a breeding ground for corruption and sometimes tax-exempt organizations have been tied to federal corruption investigations.
  • Support legislation in Congress that forces nonprofit hospitals to increase their transparency.  
  • • Too many hospitals with tax-exempt status abuse it while forcing neurodivergent individuals and families to pay more for care and face reduced access. 
    • Requiring nonprofit hospitals to be more transparent is a first step in rebuilding confidence in our health care system. 
  • Support legislation at the state level that bans foreign funding for ballot imitative/referendum campaigns. 
  • • Like Congress, states must also act on curbing foreign funding in ballot initiative campaigns that are an extension of legislation.
    • Stopping the influence of foreign funds at the state level is a critical step in restoring confidence in the ballot initiative process.
  • Supporting clearer guidelines on what 501(C)4 organizations can do politically.
  • • The federal trial courts have already ruled that the current regulations on 501(c)4’s are too vague on what they can do politically.
    • Clearer guidelines means that organizations have more confidence on how they can communicate and engage issues with the American people.
    • Donors will have more certainty that their donations can be used for meaningful purposes.
  • Reforming the Federal Election Commission (FEC)
  • • Changing the composition of the current board of commissioners from an even numbered to an odd numbered board.

  This promotes greater decision making.

  • •  Requiring donor conduit platforms like ActBlue and WinRed to follow campaign finance law.
    • Require all donations be disclosed on federal campaign finance reports.

  This would remove the $200 reporting threshold currently in law.  Any donor who gives more than $200 to a campaign would be disclosed.

  • • Cracking down on straw donation schemes.

  Straw donation schemes are a breeding ground for foreign money.
