Calls on Wisconsin’s Congressional Delegation to Investigate Alleged Misuse of Special Education Funds at Wisconsin Dells Conference

03.05.2026

Wisconsin Association of School Boards allows for Attendess at a Networking Social in Wisconsin Dells to Reimburse their Attendance Using Federal Special Education Funds.  This raise concerns if Wisconsin was misusing federal funds meant for special education.

OCONOMOWOC, WISC. –  The Dairyland Sentinel reported on March 2, 2026, about a networking social sponsored by the Wisconsin Association of School Boards at an indoor waterpark resort in Wisconsin Dells. The report found that the attendees of the networking social could use federal special education funds to reimburse their attendance.  Americans for Autism Advocacy (AFAA) issues the following comment:

“Federal special education funds should be used solely for the purpose of furthering special education objectives. It is irresponsible for educational professionals to accept a taxpayer funded junket at a luxurious resort in Wisconsin Dells. Wisconsin’s Congressional delegation should demand answers and transparency as to why federal special education funds were used for reimbursing attendance at a so-called networking event. Federal law sets clear guidelines as to how IDEA Act funds can be spent by the State of Wisconsin. Wisconsinites deserve full transparency as to why educational professionals would risk the state’s reputation as a national leader in special education just for a junket.”
