Blasts Illinois House Leadership for Stopping Popular Nursing and Physical Therapy Compacts in Committee

03.30.2026

SPRINGFIELD, ILL. – The Illinois House Committee on Health Licenses cancelled a hearing originally scheduled for Friday March 27, 2026, to consider advancing the state’s application into the Nursing and Physical Therapy interstate licensure compacts.  Americans for Autism Advocacy issues the following comment:

“By prioritizing special interests, the majority leadership in the Illinois House of Representatives signaled total disregard for the concerns of nurses and their patients.  The difficulty neurodivergent Illinoisans face in accessing essential care, due to their reliance on specialized nurses and other professionals will continue to persist. The Nursing Compact (HB 4369) earned widespread grassroots support, evidenced by 218 individuals submitting witness slips compared to only four in opposition. Illinois is at greater risk of losing federal rural health care funding by 2028. Americans for Autism Advocacy is calling on Governor J.B. Pritzker to hold the leadership of the General Assembly accountable. This can be done by advancing the Nursing and other compacts during a special or veto session later this year. The desire of House leadership to satisfy special interests only hurts the many patients who would miss out on the benefits from the passage of the compacts.”
