Americans for Autism Advocacy Calls on Minnesota State Senator Nicole Mitchell to Resign from her Seat

02.12.2025

Senator Mitchell’s presence in the Minnesota Senate is preventing efforts to combat fraud in the state’s Autism programs while she is awaiting trial on two charges tied to a 2024 burglary.

PAUL, MINN. – Americans for Autism Advocacy sent a letter to the office of Minnesota Senator Nicole Mitchell (DFL-Woodbury) on February 10, 2025, asking for her resignation from her seat.  The demand for Senator Mitchell’s resignation came after the Becker County Attorney’s Officeindicted Senator Mitchell on an additional felony chargeon February 10th.  This additional charge is tied to a 2024 burglary incident in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Americans for Autism Advocacy issues the following statement:

“Minnesotans are getting tired of the side show in St. Paul. The first month of the 2025 legislative session in Minnesota has been filled with distractions in both houses of the Legislature. The distractions included a three-week walkout by the Democratic caucus in the Minnesota House of Representatives. Nicole Mitchell’s continued presence in the Minnesota State Senate could taint any effort made by the Legislature to prevent necessary reforms from happening.  Miss Mitchell is doing what is politically expedient for her party versus doing the right thing for all Minnesotans.  Americans for Autism Advocacy is asking Miss Mitchell to immediately resign from her seat in the Minnesota Senate and allow Governor Tim Walz to call a special election without delay. The people of the Woodbury area deserve to select an honorable replacement that will support needed reforms to stop the endemic fraud occurring in the Minnesota Department of Human Services.”
