Americans for Autism Advocacy Calls on Georgia Secretary of State to Fix Issues in New Online Professional Licensing System

02.23.2024

Despite Georgia creating a new online professional licensing system, some individuals in non-health professions are waiting six months for their licenses which is totally unacceptable.

WRDW-TV in Augusta, Georgia reported on February 22nd that major glitches are plaguing the Georgia Online Application Licensing System (GOALS) that was launched last October by the Office of Secretary of State.  The same report found that some applicants for non-health professional licenses are waiting six months before they can get their credentials.

A similar report by WSB-TV in Atlanta on February 20th reported of other license applicants not getting their phone calls returned or email messages responded to when inquiring about the status of  their licenses.  WXIA TV (11 Alive) in Atlanta reported that numerous physical therapists in Georgia have had issues renewing their licenses with the GOALS system.

Across the nation, AFAA is seeing the same problems over and over with professional licensing.  Computer system glitches, outdated technology, lack of investment in proper systems and training, along with unresponded communications.  Licensing delays is care denied to the neurodiversity community.  When care is denied more lives are at risk when there is a record demand for mental health services in Georgia and across the nation.

Americans for Autism Advocacy is calling on Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to immediately fix the glitches that are plaguing the GOALS licensing system.  Raffensperger has a responsibility to fix the professional licensing system for the benefit of all Georgians.  Anything less than fixing the problem is a major disservice to the neurodiversity community in Georgia.
